Back in March, Ford confirmed a 2.3-liter turbocharged four cylinder Mustang for 2015. Needless to say, it made Camaro owners nervous about Chevy following suit. Luckily, Camaro Chief Engineer, Al Oppenheiser had this to say during the 2013 SEMA show in Las Vegas:

As long as they’ll pay me to be the chief engineer, i’m going to fight for every horsepower I can and every cylinder I can.

This is great news for V6/V8 Camaro lovers, for now. Unfortunately, 2016 CAFE standards demand better fuel economy from auto manufacturers; so there are no guarantees for the future of the V8. Many Camaro enthusiasts fear the possibility of a turbocharged V6 taking over the “SS” badge in the near future.

We’ll be keeping our fingers (and toes) crossed that Chevy will continue to “fight the good fight.”
